(ABMB) Art Basel Miami Beach 2015

It’s that time of year when artists and aficionados from all over the globe traverse to Miami’s Art Deco lined shore.

While there are many satellite events hosted by Miami’s finest of the underground, the main event takes place in the Miami Beach convention center. Since I am a student at innovative LYNN University, I scored tickets for just $30. Parking in the garage nearby cost a mere $5 for the day, but make sure you use the sky-walk to bypass the line at Area D, and be like Luke and sky-walk over to area A, or you’ll be waiting all day! Inside, I enjoyed a Cuban sandwich and double cafe cortadito which set me back a buttery $15.00. Feed yourself, drink espresso, and make sure your car is safe for the day because you’ll be doing a lot of walking and do not want to rush. As soon as I heard my favorite living artist, Juame Plensa, had 2 sculptures and a sketch on exhibit, I rushed over to admire the beauty. Other highlights were seeing Picasso’s works face-to-face, along with Matisse and Warhol. I enjoyed practicing Italian with two Florentine art gallery visitors. It is surprising that with so many classy-phone-zombies, everyone was extremely polite despite almost walking into each other. Next year, I will be sure to enjoy the films projected on the New World Cinema building, see more art, and dance to live music by Miami’s favorite band, Afrobeta.
