Adventures and tranquility in Key Largo and Islamorada

Aloha from my happy place in Key Largo, Sunset Cove Beach Resort! Loaded with amenities such a kayaking and waterfront views, as soon as one steps on the property, a feeling of serenity and quiet immediately washes over you, and all stress vanishes. I initially booked the Pelican waterfront room but there was a problem with the room so they kindly placed me in the Hideaway, which I loved even more!
It was like a she-shed, and I want one so badly! Check out the pictures. I imagine the hard part would be installing the shower and plumbing. By the way, all of the rumors about Mrs. Mac’s Kitchen are true. Literally the best chili I’ve ever tasted, and their Key Lime Pie is something to write home about. I ordered their jerk chicken which came out perfectly thin-sliced with zero gross bones or fat – just the way I like it – where meat does not look like meat. Their french fries are like little crinkle-cut circles which makes them so easy to pop in your mouth. After watching the sun set into the gulf of Mexico, which the Keys are famous for, I settled in for the evening in my she-shed under the Pirate painting (see photo). How charming, quaint, and perfect. The next day, I met up with Captain Bruno of Islamorada Paddle Adventures and went out into the open waters for a few hours of fun paddle-boarding and snorkeling. Then, a friend brought me to Sandbar which is apparently the cool place for locals to hang out – literally a sandbar far out in the ocean to stroll on.

Check out my photo gallery, below!

Next time I am in the Keys, I will be heading to the Alligator Reef Lighthouse. After seeing so many pictures (once I returned), I realized this is where the most beautiful clear, blue waters are to be explored and where I should have gone in the first place! How I would love to see dolphins there, just like in this video. Oh well, looks like I will need to return soon!
